DSOSN Public Speaking Class

  •  February 25, 2025
     5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

This class is designed to help DSOSN members develop their self-advocacy and public speaking skills. Some learning tools will focus on verbal communications, essay writing, and comprehension skills. To develop the “whole person”, additional components are integrated in the informal curriculum, such as the introduction of character-building blocks (using the model of “Character Counts”), to help our members understand the importance of deleloping personal values. To encourage an environment of “learning and laughter,” the class involves a lot of role-playing activities, and it culminates with each student making a verbal presentation of their essay before parents and friends. Each class is facilitated by two instructors, who have formal training or experience in the following areas: Teaching (writing and comprehension),Public Speaking, or Leadership Training. The facilitators are assisted by volunteers, who provide one-on-one in-class support for each student and act as their “Inclusion Coaches.”
